Residential Solar Calculator

Purchasing a solar electric system is a significant financial decision for a household or business. Prospective customers may not always be familiar with energy related terminology or may have a limited understanding of what solar energy can offer.  PV Sim™ eliminates much of that complexity by furnishing customers with information tailored to their specific situation and by numerically demonstrating the economic and environmental benefits of a solar energy investment.

PV Sim is a web-based calculator that demystifies the costs and benefits associated with the purchase of a solar PV system through a visually appealing and user-friendly interface.  The tool is fully customizable and is designed to accept a wide array of add-ons.

PV Sim™ serves as a simple yet informative tool for prospective PV system owners. AzRISE now offers this customizable web-based application for license.

The core product is built upon detailed financial formulas developed by researchers at the AzRISE. The model is based on figures and statistics that reflect current and verifiable research based on present market conditions.

 Simple, user-friendly inputs

The customer simply provides their average monthly utility bill or their average monthly kWh usage. They will also be able to move a slider to select the level of solar offset they wish to have.

Upon receiving the customer's information, the user receives five key calculations: 

  • Estimated cost before and after state and federal tax incentives
  • Average monthly and yearly savings
  • Rate of return
  • Emission savings
  • Break-even point

Customizable options

PV Sim’s™ inputs and outputs can be modified to fit your company’s preferences. For example, the emission savings output section could be altered to show the customer how many trees they would have to plant in order to match the CO2 emission savings of the PV system.

The graphical user interface may also be tailored to fit your company’s web page theme, and can be designed to incorporate your company’s logo and color scheme.

Areas of modification include:

  • Finance metrics (ROI, IRR, ARR, payback period)
  • Aesthetics of user interface (colors, shape, logos)
  • Environmental savings (car miles, trees, etc)

Updates

In order to ensure accurate outputs for users, numerous statistics are monitored and updated to reflect new market realities that include incentives, electricity rates and innovations in solar technology.

PV Sim’s™ flexible design offers the ability to add additional features and creative outputs to the tool.
